About Me

Hi, I'm Anjola! 👋

I currently work as a Marking Assistant at the University of Alberta. I grew up creating—or rather, trying to create—games on Roblox. I was that kid with a dream to build the kind of games I always wanted to play. That dream is what first sparked my love for coding, and eventually led me to study it in university.

While at university, I fell in love with the more theoretical side of computer science. I became fascinated by how programming languages work, the challenge of parallelizing algorithms, and research in general. That curiosity led me to pursue a directed study, through which I was honored to receive the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award in my final year.

Since graduating, I’ve been exploring creative projects that bring me back to what made me fall in love with coding in the first place— while still pushing me to learn and grow within the field.

Outside of tech, I’m a fitness enthusiast, a lifelong Arsenal supporter, and of course, a gamer at heart. I love cozy games like Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, and Animal Crossing, and more realistic games like The Sims 4 and PUBG. My fascination with first-person shooters is a bit unexpected, but I’m always down for a good match.

Work Experience

Marking Assistant

  • Critical Thinking
  • Attention to Detail
  • Written Communication

February 2025 - Present

As a Marking Assistant for a university-level History and Theory of Computing Science course, I evaluate and grade student assignments, ensuring fair and consistent assessment based on course criteria. This role requires strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and adherence to academic standards to provide accurate feedback that supports student learning.

Information Technology Intern

  • Information Technology
  • Computer Hardware Assembly
  • Troubleshooting

September 2023 - December 2023

During my Hardware Practicum, I demonstrated strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills by diagnosing and resolving a variety of computer issues. With keen attention to detail, I disassembled and reassembled computers, ensuring proper functionality while preventing damage. My responsibilities included replacing SSDs, backing up and restoring data, installing new Windows versions and updates, and configuring essential drivers. I also troubleshot hardware and software issues, installed security software to prevent malware infections, and performed virus removal and system cleanups to optimize performance. Additionally, I built two computers from scratch using parts available in the store. This involved carefully installing the CPU onto the motherboard, inserting RAM, connecting power supply cables, attaching fans, and ensuring all components were properly secured. After assembling the hardware, I installed Windows on the newly built systems, ensuring they were fully operational and ready for sale to customers.

Junior Software Developer

  • Python
  • SQL
  • REST APIs
  • Back-End Development
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

May 2023 - August 2023

As a Junior Software Developer at Areto Labs, I developed a Python-based YouTube data scraper that processed comments and replies, and ran periodically via an API endpoint. I also contributed to the backend development of the social media moderation SaaS platform by designing and optimizing SQL queries, building REST API endpoints, and implementing automated moderation workflows. I wrote unit tests for database operations and integration tests for API endpoints. Additionally, I implemented a Google Cloud uptime monitoring system and worked with Docker for testing, while collaborating in an Agile environment to enhance platform functionality.

Teaching Assistant

  • Python
  • Problem Solving
  • Teaching

Janaury 2023 - April 2023

As a Teaching Assistant for a first-year Python programming course, I provided technical support and guidance to students, leveraging advanced Python expertise to help them complete lab work and assignments. I fostered a supportive learning environment by mentoring students, enhancing their problem-solving skills, and strengthening their coding knowledge. This role required effective communication, leadership, and the ability to simplify complex concepts to ensure student success.

Research Assistant

  • Python
  • Streamlit
  • Front-End Development
  • Material UI
  • UI Design

May 2022 - August 2022

In this role, I was responsible for bridging machine learning models and user-facing applications by building a general machine learning interface in Python using Streamlit. I created a middleware functionality to preprocess user inputs into numerical formats for the model, retrieve predictions and scores, and present them on a user-friendly front end. I also customized the dashboard to provide clear, interactive visualizations, making it easy for end users to interpret positive and negative sentiment results. This required integrating modular designs and prioritizing accessibility while collaborating with the research team to refine the interface.
